Back-to-School Service
This message, aimed at students, reminds them that work is an essential component of their personal development and future. However, it applies equally to them as well as to adults already in the workforce. Work, as designed by God, is a source of blessing, but it requires effort and perseverance. Through this message, we will explore the role of work in the Christian life, its benefits, and the enemies to avoid in order to succeed in this vocation.
Here is a summary of each element concerning work, accompanied by a relevant Bible verse:
Work was established by God at the beginning of humanity, even before the fall of Adam and Eve. It is therefore the first divine institution, giving work great importance in God’s plan for humanity. Verse : Genesis 2:15 - "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it."
Work precedes marriage in the divine order of priorities. Without work, it becomes difficult to fully support and enjoy married life, as the financial resources necessary for a fulfilled family life depend on work. Verse : Ecclesiastes 9:9-10 – "Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love... for this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun."
Success in work demands perseverance and determination. It’s important not to be discouraged by obstacles and to press forward. For young people, this involves investing in studies and professional training to build a solid future. Verse : Psalm 104:23-24 – "Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening. How many are your works, Lord!"
Work is necessary to provide for one's needs. The Bible says that those who refuse to work should not eat, highlighting the importance of effort for self-sustenance. Verse : 2 Thessalonians 3:10 - "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat. "
Work is not only a means to meet one's needs but also a source of prosperity. Diligent work and wise investment increase resources and lead to abundance. Verse : Proverbs 14:23 – "All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."
Working and reaping the fruits of one’s labor brings a sense of satisfaction. Enjoying the well-being that work provides is a gift from God, and it is essential to engage in activities that bring fulfillment and happiness. Verse : Ecclesiastes 3:13 - "That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God."
Work allows each person to contribute to society. Being productive and fulfilling one’s social role is a way to find one’s place in the community and live harmoniously with others. Verse : Ephesians 2:10 - "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works."
Work can be hindered by several obstacles, and it is crucial to identify them in order to overcome them. Here are five enemies that can harm our productivity:
Laziness is one of the main obstacles to work. It can be caused by various factors such as cold, fatigue, and sleep. Verses : Proverbs 21:25-26, Proverbs 20:4, Proverbs 20:13
Giving up in the face of difficulties is a sign of a lack of perseverance. Perseverance is essential to complete tasks and overcome obstacles. Verse : 2 Thessalonians 3:11
Distractions such as social media or unnecessary conversations divert our attention from work. It is important to focus on what is essential. Verse : Proverbs 28:19
Without discipline, it is impossible to organize oneself and meet deadlines. Time management is crucial for optimal productivity. Verse : Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Believing that one can do everything alone is a mistake. It is often necessary to seek help to move forward and overcome challenges. Verse : Proverbs 27:17
Work, as a divine institution, is a central element of our daily and spiritual lives. It is both a source of sustenance, personal fulfillment, and contribution to society. However, to work well and succeed, we must not only persevere and discipline ourselves but also overcome enemies such as laziness and distractions. By following the teachings of the Bible, we can transform work into an act of faith, service, and praise to God.
